Can I use other propane bottles with the TapRack (including green disposable bottles)?Updated 24 days ago
No — other propane bottles will not fit on the Ignik TapRack.
The TapRack and Ignik bottles use a proprietary 1/4-turn (quarter-turn) connection designed to make bottles fast and easy to attach/detach. Because of that proprietary interface, only Ignik bottles are compatible with the TapRack.
These bottles are NOT compatible with the TapRack
The following will not attach to the TapRack or work with it:
Single-use disposable 1 lb “green” bottles (DOT-39 cylinders)
Flame King refillable bottles
Fuel Keg refillable bottles
Little Kamper exchange bottles
Any other non-Ignik bottle brands or connection types
Important safety warning: never refill “green” single-use bottles
Single-use 1 lb “green” bottles are typically DOT-39 non-refillable cylinders. The U.S. DOT’s PHMSA warns the public to never refill DOT-39 cylinders—they are designed for one-time use, and incidents have occurred from refilled bottles.
It’s also illegal to transport refilled DOT-39 cylinders, and penalties can be severe.
Are Ignik bottles refillable without the TapRack?
Ignik bottles are designed to be refilled as part of the TapRack system at professional refill locations. We do not provide DIY instructions.
Bottom line
If you want to use the TapRack, you’ll need to use Ignik bottles—other bottles won’t fit. And if you’re looking at disposable green bottles: just do not refill them.
