Does the TapRack have OPD / overfill protection?Updated 23 days ago

Short answer: The TapRack itself does not have an OPD valve inside it—because the TapRack is a filling/manifold device, not a fuel storage tank. The Ignik bottles are the fuel storage devices, and the required overfill/overpressure safety features are built into each bottle and its valve system, along with the professional refill process.

TapRack vs. bottles (why this matters)

  • TapRack = the system that connects bottles and provides a single fill point (the main valve) for a propane refiller.

  • Ignik bottles = the pressurized propane cylinders that actually store fuel.

Overfill protection is primarily a cylinder safety requirement, so it’s addressed at the bottle level, not “inside the rack.”

How overfill/overpressure protection is handled

Ignik bottles are equipped with safety features designed for professional refilling, including:

  • Proprietary, standards-tested valve components (per the applicable safety standards used for the system)

  • A Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) to protect against overpressure

  • A bleeder / fill-level port used during refilling to indicate when a bottle has reached the proper fill level

Also, the TapRack system is intended to be refilled by a professional propane refiller who fills by weight to the labeled limits.

Bottom line: The system’s “overfill protection” is a combination of (1) the bottle’s valve/PRV/bleeder design and (2) professional filling by weight—not a built-in OPD inside the TapRack.

What you should expect at the refill station

A trained attendant should:

  • Fill through the TapRack main valve

  • Use the labeled limits (including 15.5 oz per bottle) and confirm by weight

  • Use the bottle bleeder ports as part of the normal fill procedure

If you’re worried a bottle was overfilled

If a bottle seems to be venting, smells strongly of propane, or you’re concerned it was filled incorrectly:

  • Stop using it, keep it upright, and move it outdoors away from ignition sources

  • Do not try to “fix” an overfill yourself

  • Return to a propane refill station for help, or contact Ignik Support
