How do I refill the Ignik TapRack at a propane refill station (and how do I know it's full)?Updated 20 days ago
REFILLING TAPRACK & IGNIK REFILLABLE BOTTLES
The Ignik TapRack connects up to four DOT-approved 15.5 oz refillable propane bottles into one system so a professional propane refiller can fill them through the TapRack’s main valve (by weight), similar to how they fill 5/10/20 lb tanks. The maximum combined fill for 4 bottles is 0.89 gallons (3.9 lb of propane). Do not overfill.
BEFORE YOU GO TO THE PROPANE REFILL STATION
For best results, refill when bottles are empty (or all at the same level).
Inspect everything. Check bottles, valves, and the frame for dents, damage, rust, or signs of leaking.
Attach bottles to the TapRack. Align the bottle valve with the TapRack mount, press upward, and rotate ¼-turn clockwise to lock.
Keep the TapRack upright for transport and during filling. What to tell the refiller (simple script):
“This is a DOT-approved refillable propane system. Please fill through the main valve. The total fill will be 0.89 gallons."
AT THE REFILL STATION (WHAT WILL HAPPEN)
The refiller will connect the filling hose to the TapRack main valve.
They will open the TapRack main valve.
They will open one or more bottle bleeder valves (opening multiple is OK).
They’ll start filling. During filling, the bleeders may “pulse” vapor. When a bottle is full, the bleeder shows a steady vapor bleed.
Stop before the total meter reaches 0.9 gallons.
Max total fill (by number of bottles connected):
1 bottle: 0.23 gal (0.87 L)
2 bottles: 0.45 gal (1.70 L)
3 bottles: 0.67 gal (2.54 L)
4 bottles: 0.89 gal (3.37 L)
HOW DO I KNOW IT'S FULL?
You’ll know filling is complete when:
The refiller has stopped under the correct total gallons (see table above).
The bottle bleeder(s) show a steady vapor bleed (a “full” indicator).
The refiller can weigh the assembly or bottles to confirm the fill is within spec, and use a bleeder to release any excess fuel if needed.
Important: Do not exceed 15.5 oz per bottle.
AFTER FILLING
The refiller will shut down the fill device, close the TapRack main valve, then close bleeders once visible bleeding stops.
Bottles can be left on the TapRack for storage/transport or removed for portability.
HELPFUL TIPS
Don’t reattach partially filled bottles to the TapRack unless you’re preparing to refill. When bottles with different fill levels are connected, fuel/pressure will redistribute across all connected bottles.
The TapRack is not compatible with single-use disposable propane bottles, and it’s not compatible with Flame King or Fuel Keg refillable bottles.
