How do I attach/remove bottles from the TapRack (and why pressure may change when reconnecting)?Updated 24 days ago

The Ignik TapRack uses a proprietary 1/4-turn (quarter-turn) connection that makes it quick and secure to attach and remove bottles. When bottles are mounted on the TapRack, they’re connected to a shared system—so pressure can equalize between bottles, especially if their fill levels are different.

How to attach a bottle (quarter-turn connection)

Before you start:

  • Make sure the TapRack is upright on a stable surface.

  • Make sure the TapRack is not connected to an appliance and the main valve is closed.

  • Keep away from flames/ignition sources.

To attach:

  1. Align the bottle with its TapRack mount.

  2. Press upward firmly.

  3. Rotate the bottle ¼-turn clockwise until it locks in place.

You may hear a brief hiss: A small sound can be normal as pressure equalizes across connected bottles.

How to remove a bottle

Before you remove:

  • Turn off your appliance (if connected), then ensure the TapRack main valve is closed.

  • Wait a few seconds for things to settle.

To remove:

  1. Support the bottle with one hand.

  2. Press upward slightly and rotate ¼-turn counter-clockwise to unlock.

  3. Lower the bottle away from the TapRack mount.

Why pressure may change when you reconnect a bottle

When bottles are mounted on the TapRack, they share the same system. If you connect bottles that have different amounts of fuel, propane vapor/pressure can redistribute between them to reach a balance. Fuel will not transfer between bottles.

This is especially noticeable if you reattach an empty (or low) bottle to a rack that has fuller bottles on it.

Best practices (to avoid surprises)

  • Refill empty bottles, or bottles that are at the same fill level (all similarly empty).

  • If you want your remaining bottles to stay as useful as possible, don’t reattach an empty bottle to the TapRack unless you’re preparing to refill.

  • Avoid storing or transporting the TapRack with a mix of full + empty bottles mounted together (unless you understand that pressures may equalize).

Safety note

A brief hiss during connection can be normal. However:

  • If you smell propane strongly, or

  • You hear continuous hissing,

Stop, move away from ignition sources, and remove bottles from TapRack. If you have a leak-check article, "How do I Check for Leaks"
